A social story for going on vacation

and the first night in a new bed.

Packing, the drive or the flight, a hotel room that smells different, a bed that is not theirs. Vivi turns the trip into a narrated, animated story your child stars in, with the plan in order and bedtime the same as at home.

Who it helps

Seeing a family vacation before it happens, as the main character.

For children who need to know what happens next, who find a change of routine hard, or who sleep badly anywhere but home. Parents of autistic and anxious children often watch a vacation social story every day in the week before leaving.

Put in the real details: where you are going, what the room looks like, and which toy or blanket comes along.

  1. Getting ready

Packing the bag together, the toy from home going in first, and talking through the plan.

  2. Getting there

The car or the plane, some waiting, and arriving somewhere new.

  3. The hotel room

Looking around, finding the bed, putting the familiar things out, and seeing where mom and dad sleep.

  4. Bedtime away

The same steps as at home, in the same order, and then morning and the first day of the trip.

Yours, not ours. These are the moments a story like this usually walks through. You choose what goes into your child's, and read every page before it is animated.

Questions parents ask

Before a family vacation, in short.

  1. When should we watch it?

Every day for a week before the trip, and again at the hotel before the first bedtime. The bedtime scene is the one to watch on the spot.

  2. Can I add our hotel and plan?

Yes. Tell Vivi where you are going, how you get there, what the room looks like and what your child brings from home. You read every page before it is animated and ask for changes in plain words.

  3. How do I prepare my autistic child for a trip?

Give them the plan in order, keep bedtime exactly as at home, and bring something familiar for the new room. A social story with your child as the main character shows that plan ahead of time, so the new place has already been seen.

  4. How much does it cost?

Your first story is free in your first 30 days. After that you buy credits: 3 for $9, 10 for $26 or 30 for $66. A story is 1 credit, and a Fully Animated story is 10 more. Your first routine, Choose-Along and plan are free, then 1 credit each. Bought credits never expire.

Make it about your child tonight.

Your first story is free. Set up your child, start from Going on Vacation, and watch it together before bed.
